PDF to Word Free — Convert PDF to .docx
Extract a PDF's text into an editable .docx Word file. Best for text-heavy documents — the output is plain paragraphs, grouped by source page, that you can edit in Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice.
How it works
- Drop your PDF. Drag a text-bearing PDF onto the page. Scanned image-only PDFs won't work without running OCR first.
- We extract the text locally. GhostPDF reads every page and pulls the embedded text into paragraphs, grouped by page. No upload — your PDF never leaves your browser.
- Download your .docx. The output is a .docx file you can open and edit in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, or any modern word processor.
Frequently asked questions
Will the formatting be preserved?
Text extraction only — paragraphs are wrapped in a .docx with one paragraph per line, grouped by source page. Images, tables, fonts, exact layout, and styling will NOT survive. For format-preserving conversion, use Acrobat Pro.
Does this work on scanned PDFs?
No. Scanned PDFs are images of text — there's no embedded text to extract. Run OCR first, then come back.
Are tables and images preserved?
Table contents are extracted but lose their grid structure. Images are not transferred to the .docx.
Is the .docx really editable?
Yes. Every paragraph is a real Word paragraph — edit text, change fonts, add formatting, paste images, anything you'd do in a normal .docx.
Do you upload my PDF?
No. Text extraction and .docx assembly both run in your browser.
Free?
Yes. No caps, no signup, no watermark.
