Add Page Numbers to PDF Online Free — No Signup
Stamp page numbers onto every page of your PDF. Pick the position (top or bottom, left/center/right), the format (1, 1/10, or Page 1 of 10), and the starting number. Useful for legal filings, manuscripts, and academic papers.
How it works
- Drop your PDF. Drag the PDF onto the page. GhostPDF reads the page count automatically.
- Choose position, format, and start number. Six positions to pick from. Three number formats: plain (1), over total (1/10), or page-of (Page 1 of 10). Set a starting number if your document doesn't begin at 1.
- Download the numbered PDF. GhostPDF stamps each page with the chosen format and gives you the new PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Can I start at a number other than 1?
Yes. The Start At field lets you begin numbering at any integer — useful when your document continues from another PDF, or when the first few pages are a cover and table of contents.
Can I skip the title page?
Currently no — page numbers stamp on every page. A workaround: split off the title page, number the rest with a non-1 start value, then merge them back.
Will it overwrite existing content?
Numbers stamp in the page margin at the chosen corner. On most documents this is empty space, but on tightly-laid-out pages the number may sit over content.
Are roman numerals supported?
Not yet — only Arabic numerals. Vote for it on the feedback issue if you need it.
Do you upload my PDF?
No. Page numbering runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib.
Free?
Yes. Free forever, no signup, no watermark, no caps.
