GhostImageStudio

HEIC to JPG, no upload.

Drop an iPhone photo and it's decoded and converted on your device — never sent to a server.

Convert iPhone HEIC/HEIF photos to JPG in your browser — no upload, no app, no signup. GhostImage decodes HEIC locally with a WebAssembly build of libheif (the small decoder loads once on first use), then re-encodes to JPG at the quality you choose. Because everything runs on your device, your camera roll never touches a server. You can also pick PNG, WebP, or AVIF as the target — or turn the photo straight into a PDF — from the same Convert step.

How it works

  1. 1

    Drop your HEIC photo

Drag a .heic or .heif file onto the page or click to browse. It opens in the GhostImage studio with Convert to JPG pre-selected.

  2. 2

    It decodes on your device

A WebAssembly HEIC decoder runs in a Web Worker in your browser — the photo is never uploaded. Adjust the JPG quality slider if you want.

  3. 3

    Download the JPG

Save the converted photo, or keep editing — resize, crop, compress, or strip metadata in the same tab.

Frequently asked questions

  • How do I convert HEIC to JPG without uploading my photos?

Use a converter that decodes HEIC in the browser. GhostImage bundles libheif compiled to WebAssembly, so the decode happens in a Web Worker on your device — there's no upload endpoint at all.

  • Why won't my iPhone photos open on Windows or the web?

iPhones shoot HEIC by default — a modern, efficient format that many apps, sites, and older versions of Windows don't accept. Converting to JPG makes the photo universally compatible.

  • Will the quality drop?

JPG is lossy, but at the default quality the difference is not visible for photos. You control the quality slider — higher keeps more detail, lower makes a smaller file.

  • Can I convert to PNG or WebP instead of JPG?

Yes. The same Convert step targets JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF — or PDF, if you want the photo as a one-page document.

  • Can I convert many HEIC photos at once?

The convert step handles one photo at a time (and each result stays fully editable). For a whole set, run them through one by one — every conversion is free, so there's no cap to worry about.

  • Is it free?

Yes — free, no watermark, no signup, no limit on the number of photos.
