Convert a Word document to Markdown. Markdown is the plain-text format that documentation sites, wikis, GitHub, static site generators, note apps like Obsidian, and AI chat tools all read natively. GhostX reads the .docx in your browser and converts its structure — headings, paragraphs, bulleted and numbered lists, links, bold and italic — to Markdown, dropping Word's layout-only formatting. No upload, no signup.
Because the conversion runs on your device, it's safe for internal documents you wouldn't paste into an online converter — policy drafts, contracts, client notes.
Drop your .docx
It opens in the studio with Convert → Markdown pre-selected.
It converts locally
The document is read and converted to Markdown in your browser.
Download the .md
Save the Markdown file — or convert the same document to PDF, HTML, or plain text instead.
Feeding documents to AI tools
Markdown is a compact, structure-preserving format for pasting a document into an AI assistant — headings and lists survive, and Word's formatting noise doesn't.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The .docx is read and converted in your browser; it never leaves your device.
What formatting is kept?
Document structure: headings, paragraphs, lists, links, bold and italic. Visual layout — fonts, colors, page margins, text boxes — has no Markdown equivalent and is dropped.
Does it work with .doc files?
Only the modern .docx format. Open an old .doc in Word, LibreOffice, or Google Docs and save it as .docx first.
Are images kept?
Markdown is text-only, so embedded images aren't carried into the .md file. Use Word to PDF if you need a faithful copy with images.
Every GhostPDF tool runs entirely in your browser. Your file is never uploaded — there's no upload endpoint to send it to.
